Social Media and Infomania: Impulsive vs. Compulsive Behavior

Impulsivity is a pattern of acting without thinking, driven by pleasure-seeking behaviors and avoidance of pain that often results in negative consequences or undesirable outcomes. Compulsive behavior is driven by a need to rid oneself of doubt, anxiety, or uncertainty. Sometimes these behaviors are confused, and treatment for each is different. The focus of the workshop is to learn the similarities and differences between impulsive and compulsive behavior using the example of how people use (and misuse) social media.

Dr Christopher Mogan PhD is the Director of The Anxiety Clinic in Melbourne, specializing in complex presentations of Anxiety, OCD, Hoarding Disorders.
